This is an ongoing project which should be completed in the Summer of 2010. Kayl Good is the chief project engineer and logsmith. What we are building here is a sauna made from spruce logs from trees we cut right here on the ranch. The sauna will have a wood stove inside for a heat source. The logs were milled right where they fell with a chainsaw attachment called an Alaskan Mill. They were then floated down a flood channel of the river and either carried or trailered a short distance to the construction site. From there the remaining bark is peeled and the notches are cut in the log ends. Then gradually the building goes up as each log is set. It's hard, fun work. A more complete version of this page will eventually replace this one, but for now enjoy these pics of a work in progress.
